The PCB layout is optimized specifically for Micro Journal firmware and hardware architecture, with a 68-key matrix configuration and dedicated pinouts for direct integration with Micro Journal mainboards.
The Micro Journal Keyboard PCB is a purpose-designed 68-key matrix developed for Rev.2.1, Rev.4, and Rev.7 devices, providing a reliable and modular input solution for both DIY builders and existing users. Each board is equipped with Cherry-profile compatible hot-swappable switch sockets, allowing mechanical switches to be installed or replaced with ease, enabling straightforward customization and maintenance. Micro Journal is an open source project aimed at making custom digital journaling devices accessible to DIY enthusiasts. All components used in the system are based on widely available, off-the-shelf parts that can be easily sourced online. However, the keyboard PCB has been an exception, as it required custom fabrication through PCB manufacturing services, often involving bulk orders and higher costs that made single builds impractical.
To address this, I have worked directly with the PCB manufacturer to maintain ready-to-ship stock and offer the board in single-unit quantities. This removes the barrier of bulk ordering and significantly simplifies the build process for individual makers. Elecrow has been providing exceptional quality PCB at a great price!
The PCB is available both as part of Micro Journal DIY kits and as a standalone replacement component, making it suitable for new builds, repairs, or upgrades.
