The CYD 2.8" ESP32 Marauder/Bruce Battery Upgrade Kit is a solderless mod that adds LiPo battery support, I2C battery status, and GPS capability to supported CYD boards (ESP32-2432S028R only). It includes a custom PCB, GPS antenna, wiring, but does not include a battery. Compatible with both Marauder and Bruce firmware (note: Bruce lacks I2C battery status), it’s designed for users who want an easy, plug-and-play upgrade. GPS requires outdoor line-of-sight to function properly—don’t expect a lock indoors.
Will not work with the Capacitive CYD versions. Those end in C not R. Purchase the R version. You can flash 1.6.1 here

Don't want to mess around with soldering battery leads and GPS modules? Neither did I. This mod chip lets you add a LiPo battery, battery status over I2C, and GPS to your Cheap Yellow Display with zero soldering. Works out of the box with the ESP32 Marauder and Bruce Firmware.
Note: The battery is not included in this kit. Please refer to the battery links below.

GPS isn’t working?
If you have trouble with GPS locking, you’ll unfortunately have to leave your dank crypt you vampire. Cell phones have spoiled us by making us think GPS should always work indoors when really a phone is using a combination of cell tower triangulation, WiFi, and GPS antennas to acquire your position. That cell phone technology is A-GPS. This board is purely GPS and for it to work, it needs an unobstructed view of the sky. It can work in a car though! It’s the same story with fancy Garmin GPS trackers too. So go outside! (Yes you can wait until it’s dark 🧛♂️)
